Ignored our request for assessment of rust around our windshield

Winnebago Industries review by Johnny Appleman
We have a 2003 Itasca Horizon Motorhome. While washing the coach over a year ago I discovered that there is a severe rusting problem around the windshields. We took the coach to our dealer and they took several pictures of the problem areas and e-mailed them to Winnebago. Winnebago asked for more pics so we took the coach back to our dealer and they made more pictures and e-mailed them. I have made several calls to Winnebago and asked them about progress toward a solution of this problem. I've told them we've done everything they've requested of us but still have not heard anything from them. It seems that any discussion must originate from me rather than them calling us to give us an update.

This is a manufacturer's defect and the factory should do the repair.

I just picked up our 2004 Winnebago Sightseer from the storage yard last week, and there it was...a crack running down the middle of the passenger side windshield. I immediately knew what the cause was, since I previously owned a 1988 Winnebago Superchief that had both sides crack. The problem is caused by rust flakes on the frame that the windshields are glued to. More specifically, there are tabs on the frame in a few places, top and bottom, that stick out and presumably are there to center the windshield for the installer. They are exposed to the outside and rust very quickly. The rust travels underneath the glass, bubbles out and causes pressure points on the edge of the windshield and it eventually cracks. I remember that when my wife and I were shopping for the new motorhome four years ago, we asked the salesman if that design flaw had been corrected. He assured us it had! Imagine that: a salesman telling you what you want to hear. Someone needs to ramrod a class action lawsuit regarding this.
