Re: GRAND DESIGN SOLITUDE 3350-RL

We purchased this unit to live in while building our house. Within days of putting it on our owned RV site, we began noticing problems - a huge leak in the under storage, poor quality in the kitchen sink (began showing rust spots within the first week), unit arrived with dents in both sinks and permanent stains on the countertop, an outside storage handle that snapped off after 3 tugs, a fireplace that didn't work, a heating module in the theater seating that quit within 2 months, and the very worst - wear on the theater seating headrest that looked like someone had taken a cheese grater to it!

None of this would have been an issue if the manufacturer, Grand Design, had stepped up without endless arguments!

I heard every excuse in the book as to why they either wouldn't or couldn't fix our problems.

After endless battles, I finally got the kitchen sink, fireplace, bathroom counter, and ONE of the 2 damaged bathroom sinks replaced, as well as a partial repair of the leaks. We had to pay to replace the under storage handle, and to repair the bulk of the leaks underneath. Our extended warranty covered the heating module in the theater seating.

Now to address our biggest problem, which remains one of our biggest headaches still - only 2 years into ownership!

The headrest of one side of the theater seating is almost worn through. We used the 5th wheel for 5 months, closed it up for the winter and left, returning 5 months later.

Within 2 months of using it, I noticed wear on the headrest. I mentioned it to our RV dealer, who directed me to Grand Design. GD immediately pushed me off to the furniture manufacturer, Lippert. I felt, since there had actually been minimal use of this trailer, someone should be replacing this furniture.

Lippert and Grand Design disagreed. We were offered a 50% discount of a replacement section, with shipping to be covered by (you guessed it!) us. What really irked me was Lipperts acknowledgement that they've upgraded the material because the faux leather in our seats was proven to fail! And still they did nothing.

What was extremely aggravating was Grand Design's refusal to step up when Lippert wouldn't - after all, who contracted Lippert?

For us, this cheaply made furniture cost us 2 trailer sales. We wanted to sell the unit and buy one with better reviews and definitely better quality. Upon showing the trailer, 2 potential buyers made the same observation. If the quality of the furniture is this bad in a virtually brand-new RV, what does that say about the quality throughout?

After repeated refusals from Grand Design and Lippert to do the right thing by us, their customers, I did advise them that I would place reviews online.

Which brings me here.

Grand Design is owned by Winnebago. We won't be buying anything from either manufacturer.

User's recommendation: Avoid Grand Design / Winnebago!

Monetary Loss: $85000.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Winnebago Industries Pros: Design and features.

Winnebago Industries Cons: Poor construction, Poor customer support.
